구글이 AI 리서치 도구 '노트북LM(NotebookLM)'의 오디오 요약(Audio Overviews) 기능을 영어 외 50개 이상 언어로 확장했다고 4월 30일 밝혔다. 이제 한국어, 스페인어, 프랑스어, 힌디어, 중국어 등 다양한 언어로 AI 팟캐스트 스타일의 요약을 들을 수 있게 됐다. 사용자는 노트북LM 화면 오른쪽 상단의 설정 메뉴에서 원하는 '출력 언어(Output Language)'를 선택하면 AI 응답과 오디오 요약을 해당 언어로 받을 수 있다.

오디오 요약 기능은 사용자의 리서치 문서를 요약해 팟캐스트 형태의 대화로 제공하는 AI 도구로, 2023년 출시 이후 200개국 이상으로 서비스가 확대됐다. 이 기능은 특히 복잡한 정보를 음성 기반으로 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 설계돼, 교육 및 비즈니스 분야에서 활용도가 높다. 최근에는 사용자가 대화 중 AI 호스트를 직접 안내하거나 상호작용할 수 있는 기능도 추가됐다.

구글은 또 이 기능을 젬미니(Gemini) 챗봇과 구글 문서(Google Docs)에도 통합해, 더 다양한 형식의 텍스트 자료를 음성 콘텐츠로 변환할 수 있게 했다.

Google is expanding its AI-powered Audio Overviews tool in NotebookLM to support over 50 languages, including Korean, Chinese, Spanish, French, Hindi, and Turkish, the company announced Tuesday. Users can change the language by selecting “Output Language” from settings in NotebookLM. This enables responses and podcast-style summaries to be delivered in the selected language. Audio Overviews, first launched in 2023, turns research materials into AI-generated podcast conversations. It is currently available in over 200 countries. The tool allows users to better comprehend dense written content through conversational audio, offering particular value in education, business, and productivity contexts. Recently, Google added more interactivity, enabling users to guide the AI hosts or engage in live back-and-forth during the conversation. Google has also brought Audio Overviews to Gemini and Google Docs, allowing users to convert more types of written content into spoken AI summaries. The company says this multilingual rollout is “an early look at what’s possible” and plans to refine the feature further based on user feedback, as part of its broader push toward multimodal AI accessibility.
