암호화폐 거래소 크라켄이 애플·테슬라·엔비디아 등 미국 주식 50여 개를 토큰화해 24시간 거래할 수 있는 서비스를 출시한다.
'xStocks'라는 이름의 이 서비스는 솔라나 블록체인에서 운영되며 백드 파이낸스(Backed Finance)가 실제 주식을 1:1로 보관해 토큰 가격이 시장 가치를 반영하도록 하고 현금으로 상환도 가능하다. 유럽, 라틴아메리카, 아프리카, 아시아 고객들을 대상으로 몇 주 내 서비스를 시작할 예정이지만 규제상 미국 고객은 이용할 수 없다.
아르준 세티(Arjun Sethi) 크라켄 공동 CEO는 "해외 투자자들이 미국 주식에 접근할 때 겪는 높은 수수료와 긴 결제 시간 등의 마찰을 줄이고 있다"고 설명했다. 토큰화 주식은 2021년 바이낸스가 시도했다가 규제 압박으로 몇 달 만에 중단된 바 있지만, 크라켄은 각 지역 규제 당국과 적극 협력해 합법적으로 서비스를 제공하겠다고 밝혔다. 이번 서비스는 블랙록과 로빈후드 같은 주요 기업들이 자산 토큰화에 관심을 보이는 가운데 트럼프 행정부의 암호화폐 친화적 정책과 맞물려 출시되고 있다.
토큰화 시장은 현재 898조원(650억 달러) 규모로 성장했으며, 투자자들은 이 토큰을 외부 지갑으로 옮기거나 탈중앙화금융(DeFi) 애플리케이션에서 담보로 활용할 수도 있다.
Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken announced the launch of tokenized stock trading for over 50 major U.S. companies including Apple, Tesla, and Nvidia, enabling 24/7 year-round stock trading. The service, called "xStocks," operates on the Solana blockchain with Backed Finance holding actual shares 1:1 to ensure token prices reflect market values, with cash redemption also available. The service will launch for customers in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia within weeks, though U.S. customers are excluded due to regulatory restrictions. Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi explained they are "reducing friction for global investors" who typically face high fees and long settlement times when accessing U.S. equities through local brokerages. While Binance attempted tokenized stocks in 2021 but shut down after regulatory pressure, Kraken says it is actively working with regulators in each jurisdiction to ensure legal compliance. The launch comes amid growing interest in asset tokenization from major players like BlackRock and Robinhood, coinciding with the Trump administration's crypto-friendly policies. The tokenization market has grown to $65 billion, and investors can move these tokens to external wallets or use them as collateral in decentralized finance (DeFi) applications.
