Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI has acquired Hotshot, a startup developing AI-based video generation tools. Hotshot's CEO Aakash Sastry announced this news on social media on March 18. Hotshot has been developing three video-based AI models over the past two years, and with this acquisition, it is expected to accelerate its technology development by leveraging xAI's large-scale computing infrastructure. This acquisition is interpreted as xAI's intention to enter the advanced video generation AI market, competing with the likes of OpenAI's Sora or Google's Veo 2. Musk has previously mentioned that xAI has been developing video generation models. Hotshot announced that it has discontinued new video production services from March 14, and is providing existing customers with a period until March 30 to download their previously created videos.
