Hyundai Motor Group announced today (Nov. 28) that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Baidu, China's largest Internet company, to develop connected car technology in collaboration. The collaboration is expected to further strengthen the leading position of both companies in the Chinese market and serve as an important step toward leading the future automotive industry. Hyundai Motor Group will reportedly develop a next-generation connected car OS that will increase the efficiency and safety of vehicle operations based on its experience in developing OS for vehicles. Baidu will provide technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing to enhance the functionality of the vehicle OS. The two companies will also collaborate on the development of autonomous driving technology. Hyundai Motor Group will develop autonomous driving-related sensors and control technologies, while Baidu will participate in the development of autonomous driving algorithms.
