Meta has officially launched a dedicated WhatsApp app for iPad after 15 years. The new app supports features similar to the iPhone version, including audio and video calls with up to 32 participants. It also includes front and rear camera support as well as screen sharing. By utilizing iPadOS multitasking features like Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over, users can check their messages in a split-screen view while browsing the web or watching videos. This solves the inconvenience faced by iPad users who previously had to rely on the web version or desktop apps. WhatsApp had expressed intentions to develop an iPad app since 2022, and recently its official X account posted an emoji hinting at the app’s release. Meta is also reportedly developing an Instagram app optimized for iPad, but no official announcement has been made yet.
