Amazon has established a dedicated agentic AI team within its hardware research and development division, Lab126. The new team will develop an agentic AI “framework” for use in robotics operations, aiming to enhance physical AI technology that understands and executes natural language commands. Lab126 is a Silicon Valley research lab responsible for developing Amazon’s key devices, including the Kindle and Echo. The formation of this team reflects Amazon’s focused investment in AI agent technology, which performs multi-step, complex tasks, unlike chatbots. Earlier this year, Amazon unveiled a web-based agent, and its cloud division also operates a separate agentic AI team. Additionally, the AI-powered voice assistant ‘Alexa+,’ launched in March, is expected to incorporate agentic capabilities.
