Anthropic has decided to offer its AI model, Claude, to all three branches of the U.S. federal government for $1. This follows a similar proposal from OpenAI last week. The offer comes after the General Services Administration designated Anthropic, OpenAI, and Gemini as approved AI vendors for the federal government. The service will be provided for one year and includes "Claude for Government," which is suitable for sensitive but unclassified government work. Anthropic has prior experience working with the federal government, having secured contracts worth up to $200 million this summer with the Department of Defense to develop military AI applications. The current administration has expressed a strong commitment to leveraging AI technology, with NVIDIA’s revenue-sharing agreement with the U.S. government to sell AI GPUs to China also drawing attention.
