US President Donald Trump revealed that media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his son Lachlan Murdoch are likely to participate in the TikTok US acquisition deal. President Trump mentioned in an interview with Fox News on the 19th (local time) that "a man named Lachlan is involved," referring to "Lachlan Murdoch, a very unusual name." He added, "Rupert will probably be in the group too." The current TikTok acquisition group is known to include Oracle founder Larry Ellison and Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell, among others. According to CNN, the Murdoch father and son are expected to join the investor group through Fox Corporation rather than as individual investors. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained the previous day that "six Americans will sit on TikTok's seven-member board" and "data and privacy will be controlled by Oracle." The US also plans to directly manage TikTok's data and algorithms within the country. Congress passed legislation last year banning TikTok's operations unless the Chinese-owned ByteDance sells it to a US company, citing national security concerns. TikTok currently has approximately 170 million users in the United States.

CNN에 따르면 머독 부자는 개별 투자자가 아닌 폭스 코퍼레이션 차원에서 투자자 그룹에 합류할 예정이다. 백악관 대변인 캐롤라인 리비트은 전날 "6명의 미국인이 틱톡 이사회 7석에 앉을 것"이라며 "데이터와 개인정보보호는 오라클이 통제한다"고 설명했다. 미국은 자국 내 틱톡의 데이터와 알고리즘도 직접 관리할 방침이다. 의회는 작년 국가보안 우려를 이유로 중국 바이트댄스가 소유한 틱톡을 미국 기업에 매각하지 않으면 운영을 금지하는 법안을 통과시켰다. 틱톡은 현재 미국에서 약 1억7000만 명이 사용하고 있다.
