Microsoft has introduced “Agent Mode” in Excel and Word, a new feature that allows users to generate complex documents and spreadsheets with a simple prompt. At the same time, the newly added “Office Agent” in Copilot chat enables the automatic creation of PowerPoint presentations and Word documents through an interactive chatbot. Agent Mode breaks down complex tasks step by step, utilizing the GPT-5 model to display the document creation process in real time. In Excel, the feature enhances the ability to build auditable and verifiable sheets, focusing on enterprise data management. Internal benchmarks showed an accuracy rate of 57.2 percent, outperforming competing AI models but still falling short of human accuracy. In Word, Agent Mode introduces “vibe writing,” a conversational document creation experience that supports drafting, refinement suggestions, and report summarization. Microsoft explains that this transforms document work from a simple writing task into an interactive process. Meanwhile, Office Agent, powered by Anthropic models, provides web-based research and real-time slide previews during PowerPoint creation.
