Amazon has upgraded its AI video generation model, Nova Reel, to include the ability to create videos up to two minutes long. Nova Reel, first introduced in December 2024, marked Amazon's entry into the generative video space and competes with models from OpenAI and Google in a rapidly growing market. The latest version, Nova Reel 1.1, allows users to generate "multi-shot" videos with consistent style across segments. Users can input prompts up to 4,000 characters in length to create videos composed of six-second shots. Additionally, the new "Multishot Manual" mode enables users to provide reference images alongside text prompts for greater control over shot composition. This mode supports up to 20 shots using a 1280x720 resolution image and a prompt limited to 512 characters. Nova Reel is exclusively available through AWS platforms like Amazon Bedrock, and users must request access to use it. While AWS automatically approves access requests, Amazon has not disclosed the sources of Nova Reel's training data or provided a way for content creators to opt out of dataset inclusion. To address copyright concerns, Amazon has stated that it will indemnify AWS customers against claims related to media generated by Nova Reel.
