Apple will release the official versions of iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 for iPhones and iPads on September 15 (local time). The update includes a variety of new features such as the “Liquid Glass” design, a redesigned Phone app, the real-time conversation translation feature “Live Translate,” a polls feature in the Messages app, and expanded lock screen customization options. Some older models, however, will not be supported. The iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max, all released in 2018, will be ineligible for iOS 26. Following last year’s removal of the iPhone 8 series and iPhone X, this year only devices released in 2019 or later will receive the new OS. Devices compatible with iOS 26 range from the iPhone 11 series through the latest iPhone 17 and iPhone Air. iPadOS 26 will be supported on the M4-based iPad Pro, iPad Air (M2 and M3), iPad (eighth generation and later), and iPad mini (fifth generation and later). Apple will also release iOS 18.7 at the same time to address security enhancements.
애플이 15일(현지시간) 아이폰과 아이패드를 대상으로 iOS 26과 iPadOS 26 정식 버전을 배포한다. 이번 업데이트에는 ‘리퀴드 글래스’ 디자인, 전화 앱 개편, 실시간 대화 번역 기능 ‘라이브 트랜스레이트’, 메시지 앱 투표 기능, 잠금화면 맞춤화 확대 등 다양한 신기능이 포함됐다. 지원 대상에서 제외된 기기도 있다. 2018년 출시된 아이폰 XR, XS, XS Max는 iOS 26 설치가 불가능하다. 지난해 제외된 아이폰 8 시리즈와 아이폰 X에 이어, 올해는 2019년 이후 출시 모델부터 최신 OS를 지원받는다. iOS 26을 지원하는 기기는 iPhone 11 시리즈부터 최신 아이폰 17과 아이폰 에어까지이며, iPadOS 26은 M4 기반 아이패드 프로, 아이패드 에어(M2·M3), 아이패드(8세대 이상), 아이패드 미니(5세대 이상) 등이 포함된다. 애플은 동시에 보안 강화를 위한 iOS 18.7 업데이트도 함께 배포할 예정이다.
