Zimbabwe is introducing digital tokens backed by gold reserves to reduce reliance on the US dollar. The tokens can be used for peer-to-peer payments and business transactions and will be priced according to international gold prices. They will be available for purchase via banks and require a minimum spend of $10 for individuals and $5,000 for financial institutions, corporates, and other entities. The move is aimed at stabilizing Zimbabwe's faltering currency.
