Taiwan's presidential website went down Tuesday evening due to a cyberattack. The attack originated outside of Taiwan and saw the website bombarded with 200 times the amount of traffic it normally sees. Pelosi is the highest-ranking US official to visit Taiwan in 25 years. China warned there would be ‘resolute and strong measures’ if Pelosi went ahead with the trip.

Taiwan’s Foxconn Technology Group started building its first plant to produce electric-car batteries Wednesday, the contract electronics manufacturer’s latest step into the booming electric-vehicle industry. Foxconn said it plans to invest about 6 billion New Taiwan dollars, equivalent to about $200 million, on battery production lines and a research-and-development center in Kaohsiung city in southern Taiwan.
