Dell Technology, the leading U.S. PC maker, is in the spotlight after its earnings report, with its stock surging more than 20% in a single day. On the New York Stock Exchange today, Dell shares closed at $69.19, up 21.25% from the previous day. It was the company's largest single-day gain in five years after it went public in December 2018. While Dell's second-quarter revenue was down from last year, it beat market expectations and net income rose. The company, like many tech companies, is expected to benefit from cost-cutting measures as it implements workforce reductions, as well as demand for servers to deploy artificial intelligence technology.

시장조사업체 Canalys와 IDC가 2023년 1분기 전 세계 컴퓨터 출하량이 전년 동기 대비 29~33% 감소한 것으로 집계됐다고 밝혔다. 이는 지난해 연말보다 더 가파른 하락세로 글로벌 PC 업체 전체가 최악의 침체기를 피하지 못했다고 전했다. IDC 보고서에 따르면 올 1분기 완제 PC 출하량은 총 5천690만 대로 지난해 같은 기간 대비 2천330만 대가량 줄었다. 또 2019년 1분기(5천920만 대), 2018년 1분기(6천60만 대) 등 코로나19 범 유행 이전보다 낮은 수준으로 나타났다.

Dell Technologies facing plummeting demand for personal computers, will eliminate about 6,650 jobs, becoming the latest technology company to announce it will let thousands of employees go. The company is experiencing market conditions that “continue to erode with an uncertain future,” Co-Chief Operating Officer Jeff Clarke wrote in a memo viewed by Bloomberg.
