마이크로소프트(MS)가 인공지능(AI)을 앞세워 검색 제왕 구글에 도전장을 던졌다. MS가 오는 3월 말 오픈 AI사의 AI챗봇인 ‘챗GPT’를 자사의 검색엔진인 ‘빙’과 통합시켜 내놓을 것으로 알려졌다. 이는 2000년 이후 검색 제왕에 오른 후 무소불위의 글로벌 검색 시장 제왕 구글에 대한 공공연한 선전포고이자 위협이다. 동시에 90%를 넘는 시장의 독재자 구글의 검색사업을 일거에 뒤집으려는 또다른 ‘검색 혁명’의 불온한 움직임이다. 그 의지와 전략을 실현시켜 줄 핵심 병기는 지난 2019년 MS가 10억달러를 투자해 독점 사용권을 확보한 오픈AI사의 챗GPT다.

Alphabet Google and Nvidia Corp. have expressed concerns to the Federal Trade Commission about Microsoft Corp.’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard Inc., adding fuel to the government’s case against the $69 billion deal, according to people familiar with the matter. The companies joined Sony Group Corp. in raising issues with the transaction, which the FTC sued to block in December. The commission has argued that the deal would hinder competition in the video-game industry and has scheduled an in-house trial for August. Either company could be called to testify as part of the FTC trial.

Microsoft Corp. is rolling out an energy-saving update to its Xbox gaming consoles intended to help the tech giant meet a 2030 deadline for its environmental goals. On Wednesday a subset of users, Xbox Insiders, will be automatically switched to a new energy-saving Shutdown option, Blaine Hauglie, technical program manager, wrote in a blog post. When left idle consoles will use less power than Sleep mode, which enables users to wake up devices and start gameplay more quickly. There are over a quarter of a million people in the Insider program, a group of gamers that get an early look at features and content in development.
