미국, 1분기 성장률 예상치 ‘반토막’... 1.1% 전망

U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) growth slowed to just 1.1% in the first quarter, half of expectations, as the U.S. Federal Reserve continues its highly accommodative monetary policy. The slowdown in the U.S. economy is evident, with inflation still running more than double the Fed's 2% target. As a result, it is widely expected that a rate hike will be discussed at the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting in May.

Japan announced Friday it would tighten export controls on 23 types of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The restrictions follow the US and Netherlands enacting similar export controls. The new rules will take effect in July and will affect companies like Nikon and Tokyo Electron. China is among the nations on the restricted list, but the restrictions aren't designed to target that nation.
