Mickey Mouse's 1928 short film will lose copyright protection at the end of next year. Disney has no copyright recourse, as long as the filmmaker adheres to the 1926 material. Disney pushed so hard for an extension of copyright protections in 1998 that the result was derisively nicknamed the Mickey Mouse Protection Act.
