미디어·콘텐츠 기업 월트디즈니가 회계연도 기준 1분기 ‘깜짝 실적’을 공개했다. 매출·순익이 모두 시장 전망을 웃돌았고, OTT 플랫폼, 테마파크에서 모두 호실적을 확인했다. 다만, 디즈니는 이날 7,000명 감원을 비롯한 전체 55억 달러 규모의 비용 절감 계획을 발표했다. CNBC 등 주요 외신이 발표한 월트디즈니의 분기 매출은 235억 1000만 달러, 조정 주당순이익(EPS)은 0.99달러로 집계됐다.

Bob Iger says he won't remove Disney's hiring freeze while he reassesses its cost structure. Iger replaced Bob Chapek as Disney's CEO last week. Chapesk had announced a hiring freeze, layoffs and cost cuts earlier this month. Disney shares have fallen nearly 38% this year.

Bob Iger has acquired a stake in Australian design company Canva. The former Disney CEO has also agreed to be an advisor to the closely held company. Canva raised money in September, valuing the company at $40 billion. The company has more than 75 million monthly users.

Delivery start-up Gopuff announced Wednesday that it’s bringing on former Disney CEO Bob Iger as an investor and advisor to the $15 billion company. “I believe consumer commerce will be very different in the near future and Gopuff is building the platform to power it,” Iger said in a statement. The terms of Iger’s investment into Gopuff were not disclosed.
