포드, 중 CATL과 '배터리 동맹'... 미국에 합작공장 추진

미국 '포드 자동차'가 중국 최대 배터리 업체 CATL과 손잡고 35억 달러 우리 돈 약 4조 5000억 원 규모의 전기차(EV) 배터리 공장을 미시간주에 추가로 건립한다. 11일(현지시간) 블룸버그와 로이터 통신은 포드가 중국 CATL과 함께 미국 미시간주 마셜 지역에 전기차용 배터리 공장을 건설한다고 보도했다. 마셜은 자동차의 도시 디트로이트에서 서쪽으로 160㎞ 정도 거리에 있다. 해당 배터리 공장에서는 리튬인산철(LFP) 배터리가 생산되며, 2500명가량의 일자리가 만들어질 것으로 예상된다.

Honda and LG Chem will build a $4.4 billion electric vehicle battery factory in the US, the latest move to shore up the country’s domestic production to comply with new tax credit rules. Honda and LG Chem will form a joint venture to produce batteries in the US for the automaker’s upcoming lineup of EVs. The two companies aim to begin construction in early 2023 to enable the start of mass production of lithium-ion battery cells by the end of 2025.

CATL is scouting new factory sites in Mexico to supply Tesla and other US electric automakers. The company is considering two sites near the US border and a significant $5 billion investment.

파나소닉, 美 캔자스에 세계 최대 전기차 배터리 공장 건설

Panasonic announced Wednesday that it's inked a $4 billion investment deal with the state of Kansas. The company has already identified a site near the city of De Soto, at a former ammunition factory. The plant will produce high-capacity cells for Tesla, according to Nikkei Asia.

Automaker Stellantis plans to invest more than $2.5 billion in partnership with Samsung SDI to build the automaker’s first U.S. electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility. The companies on Tuesday announced the new plant will be located in Kokomo, Indiana, where Stellantis already has a supplier base. The new facility is part of Stellantis’ goal to achieve annual sales of 5 million battery-electric vehicles by 2030.
