Companies and the U.S. government are shelling out billions of dollars to establish a supply chain for batteries in North America, a manufacturing effort that is critical to the auto industry’s long-range plans to put more electric vehicles on the road. Batteries are the most expensive component in an electric vehicle, accounting for about one-third of its cost.

포드, LG에너지솔루션과 터키 배터리 합작 추진

Ford Motor Co. will partner with LG Energy Solution Ltd. to build a new battery plant in Turkey, dropping a deal with SK On Co., as the US carmaker seeks to speed up the shift to clean cars and diversify its battery suppliers, people familiar with the matter said. Ford and LG Energy Solution plan to sign a memorandum of understanding within the coming weeks, probably in late January or early February, according to two people with knowledge of the matter who asked not to be named because the change in partners isn’t public.

Apple is raising the price of replacing the batteries on older iPhones. The company is also raising prices on iPads, MacBooks and some iPads in some international markets. All iPhone 14 models are under warranty, and if something goes wrong the company will fix the phone for free.

Google is rolling out two Chrome performance settings to save memory and battery power. Energy Saver mode will turn on when your battery level reaches 20%. Memory Saver is for people who have a lot of tabs open at the same time. Google says the new feature means Chrome will use up to 30% less memory to make for a smoother or faster browsing experience.

암 다음으로 우리의 생명을 위협하는 질병은 심장질환이다. 그 중 하나가 심방세동(心房細動)인데 이는 심방 근육이 국부적으로 불규칙한 수축 운동을 하는 병적인 상태다. 나이가 들수록 발병 확률이 높아진다. 심장에서 혈액을 원활히 내보내지 못하기 때문에 심하면 사망에 이를 수도 있다. 심장박동기(pacemaker)는 심장의 맥이 너무 느려서(서맥) 실신한다든지 어지럼증, 호흡곤란 같은 증상을 호소하는 환자들의 심장 박동을 유지해 주는 기기다. 미국 애리조나대는 최근 고통없이 심방 세동을 제거해 주는 꽃모양을 한 심장박동기를 개발해 관심을 모으고 있다.

미국, 전기차 배터리 원료 생산에 4조원 지원

The grants will go to 20 companies in 12 states to produce batteries for electric vehicles. The president has directed the industry to have half of all new vehicles produced in the U.S. by 2030. China controls nearly half of global production for some of the materials needed to produce these batteries.

GM, 캐나다 배터리 재활용 업체와 손잡는다

General Motors is partnering with a Canadian battery recycler to produce new batteries from recovered battery materials. The two companies will work toward establishing a circular system for recycling EV batteries. The move comes as the industry races to phase out gas engines at the end of the decade. GM and other automakers are pushing for more control over the supply by onshoring operations.

캘리포니아 배터리 저장소 화재...PG&E "화재 원인은 테슬라 배터리"

PG&E's Elkhorn Battery at Moss Landing, California, caught fire early Tuesday morning. No power outages for customers, and no injuries to on-site personnel. The fire is reminiscent of incidents involving Tesla Megapacks in Australia earlier this year. Residents near the facility were told to shelter in place due to emissions.
