유럽연합(EU) 의회는 오는 2024년 말부터 USB-C를 모든 새로운 스마트폰, 태블릿 및 카메라용 케이블을 C타입 USB(USB-C)표준으로 단일화하도록 강제하는 새로운 법을 지난 4일(현지시각) 통과시켰다. EU 의원들이 찬성 602표, 반대 13표로 채택한 이 법안은 노트북(제조사들)에는 유예 기간을 두어 2026년 초부터 적용받도록 했다.

Xiaomi has officially announced its flagship smartphone lineup for the second half of the year — the Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro. The latter is notable for being the first Xiaomi phone to make use of Samsung’s 200-megapixel HP1 camera sensor, while the non-Pro version “only” has a 108-megapixel camera.

Smartphone makers are reporting big downturns in smartphone buying. But the market is still high for expensive phones. Nearly every smartphone maker besides Samsung and Apple reported lower smartphone shipments in the second quarter (April–June) of 2022. Global smartphone shipments decreased 9 percent last quarter compared to 2021.

U.S. chipmaker Intel said on Monday it will produce chips for Taiwan’s MediaTek, one of the world's largest chip design firms. The manufacturing arrangement is one of the most significant deals Intel has announced since it launched its so-called foundry business early last year. A foundry business builds chips that other companies design and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co is the top player in that space. Intel has mainly built chips it designed itself.

The latest data from the International Data Corporation shows that Samsung remained the top smartphone vendor during the first quarter of 2022 as the South Korean manufacturer delivered 73.6 million handsets during the first three months of the year. That works out to an 1.2% year-over-year decline in Q1 shipments for the company which has a global market share of 23.4%. Behind Samsung in second place is...you got it! Apple.

가트너(Gartner)가 올해 전 세계 PC 출하량에 대한 전망치를 발표했다. 가트너는 2022년 전 세계 PC 출하량이 전년 대비 10%가까이 감소할 것으로 전망했다. 휴대폰과 태블릿보다 PC 시장의 하락세가 더 가파를 것이라고 예상했다.

Micron Technology says it expects smartphone sales to be lower than previously expected. CEO Sanjay Mehrotra says he expects smartphone unit volume to decline by around 5%. Micron also warns that it believes that PC sales could decline 10% versus last year. Micron shares fell more than 2% in extended trading on the company’s report.

HTC has introduced a new phone with metaverse-focused features. The HTC Desire 22 Pro supports HTC's Viverse ecosystem. It's also compatible with the company's $499 Vive Flow VR headset. Aside from its metaverse offerings, the phone is firmly mid-range.
