Amazon has been named the No. 1 best company to work for in the U.S., according to a study by LinkedIn. For the third year in a row, Amazon topped the networking platform's annual list of top companies, followed by Wells Fargo and JPMorgan Chase. LinkedIn's study evaluated each organization based on several factors, including opportunities to improve skills for hired employees and the speed at which employees are promoted and advanced.

Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company, has joined the race for services using generative artificial intelligence (AI). Amazon announced the launch of a new enterprise cloud service called Bedrock. Bedrock is a platform service that allows companies to develop and enhance their own AI software using text-generated AI systems, such as ChatGPT, which has been driving the AI chatbot craze.

The U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said it plans to investigate Amazon's $1.7 billion deal to acquire iRobot. "The investigation is at an early stage and is looking at whether the transaction would significantly lessen competition in the UK market," the official said. There is no timetable for when the agency will announce whether or not it will open a formal investigation.

Announced today, AWS has created a 10-week program for generative AI startups around the globe. Generative AI startup founders within the cohort can expect to have access to AI models and tools as well as machine learning stack optimization and custom go-to-market advice. There’s also a Demo Day in San Francisco at the end of the program. Accepted startups will receive up to $300,000 in AWS credits to help build their companies. Applications are open for the next two weeks and 10 startups will be chosen, the company says.

In January, John Smedley, who led Amazon Games' San Diego studio, also announced that he would resign.

Amazon unveiled on Monday that it will be laying off 9,000 employees, including many from AWS, the world’s largest cloud computing company. “The role reductions in AWS were driven by reprioritization decisions, which required us to reallocate resources,” said an AWS spokesperson to CRN. “In most cases this involved people shifting projects, priorities, or teams, but in some cases we didn’t have the right skill match for these priorities.”
