Hackers have stolen $100 million in cryptocurrency from Horizon, a so-called blockchain bridge developed by crypto start-up Harmony. Bridges allow users to transfer tokens from one blockchain to another. They’ve become a prime target for hackers due to vulnerabilities in their underlying code. It follows a series of similar attacks on blockchain bridges, including the $600 million Ronin Network heist and the $320 million stolen from Wormhole.

The report stated that a subnetwork of Bitcoin nodes is largely responsible for reaching consensus and communicating with miners and that a “vast majority of nodes do not meaningfully contribute to the health of the network. The authors also found vulnerabilities in the infrastructure, based on the fact that Bitcoin protocol traffic is unencrypted and 60% of the network traffic traverses only three ISPs. Trail of Bits is a cybersecurity research and consulting firm that was engaged by DARPA to develop the report.

Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), the blockchain engineering firm behind the Cardano network, has released some “disappointing news,” announcing a one-month delay to the long-awaited Vasil upgrade. The Vasil upgrade is set to provide a “massive performance improvement to Cardano” and its smart contract capabilities, according to Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson. It was previously slated to go through on June 29. However, the latest estimate is now set for the last week of July.

Ian Harnett, co-founder of Absolute Strategy Research, said past crypto rallies show bitcoin tends to fall roughly 80% from all-time highs. Such a drop in 2022 would likely drag the world’s biggest token down to $13,000 — a “key support area,” according to Harnett. The crypto world is on edge as investors grapple with the impact of higher interest rates and liquidity issues at major industry players.

More than half of Bitcoin (BTC) addresses are still in profit, raising questions about the severity of the current “bear market. BTC price bottoms have tended to coincide with less than half of addresses remaining in profit, and as such, the current downtrend still has a way to go if it is to fit in with historical patterns. In March 2020, for instance, profitable addresses dropped to 41%, and before that, the 2018 bear market also saw a drop below the 50% mark.
