최근 마크 저커버그의 메타가 높은 관심 속에 메타버스용 기기인 오큘러스 퀘스트 프로를 1500달러에 내놨다. 하지만 많은 사람들의 관심사는 애플의 미발표작 가상/증강현실(AR/VR) 헤드셋에 더많이 쏠려 있는 것 같다. 애플은 지난 수년 간 미래의 iOS 기기나 새로운 하드웨어(HW)에 이 새로운 기술 구현 방법을 고민해 온 것으로 알려져 있다. 당초 올해 나올 것으로 예상됐던 이 회사의 AR/VR기기, 즉 혼합현실(MR)기기가 또다시 관심을 끌기 시작했다.

애플, 중국에서 에어드롭 기능 제한

Apple has limited the use of the AirDrop wireless file sharing function on devices in China. Users of iPhones in mainland China can send or receive files from non-contacts for only up to 10 minutes. Users not in China face no such restriction and are able to receive files wirelessly from anyone. The change does not appear to affect iPhones in use in China that were purchased outside the country. Apple told CNN Business the new feature will be expanded globally in the coming year.

PayPal has started rolling out passkeys to its users in the US. Passkeys use biometrics to log into your accounts without having to type in your credentials. Apple is rolling out the technology to its computers and tablets with MacOS Ventura and iPadOS16. Google released initial passkey support for Android and Chrome earlier this month.

Apple is raising prices on its Apple Music and Apple TV Plus subscription services. Apple Music is jumping by $1 for individuals to $11 per month and by $2 for families to $17 per month. Apple's bundle service, Apple One, meanwhile, will cost $16.95 per month for an individual. The move marks the first major price increase in the US from the company in years.

Evans Hankey is leaving Apple, the company confirmed to CNBC. Hankey took over for former Apple design chief Jony Ive three years ago. She was responsible for much of Apple’s industrial design work. Apple hasn’t named a replacement, but says she will stay on to manage the transition.

Apple is bringing its immersive surround-sound audio product to vehicles through a partnership with Mercedes-Benz. Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos from Apple Music will be natively integrated into the car. Owners will need a $9.99 monthly subscription to Apple Music and a Mercedes vehicle equipped with either the Burmester 4D or 3D sound system.

올 국정감사에서 정보통신기술(ICT) 분야의 주된 이슈는 플랫폼 수수료, 메타버스 등 신산업 기준 정립 등을 비롯해 구글, 애플, 넷플릭스 등이 얽혀 있는 글로벌 빅테크의 인앱결제, 망 이용료 논쟁 등이다. 하지만 정부의 ‘자율 규제’ 기조에 따른 기관들의 미온적 대응과 함께 국회에서도 신중론이 제기되며 글로벌 빅테크 규제 입법은 주춤하는 모양새다. 이러한 상황에서 유튜브 등은 노골적인 입법 저지 운동을 이어가고 있다.
