Apple has lost its patent infringement battle with Optis over fourth-generation mobile communications (4G) technology in the United Kingdom. The Court of Appeal in London on Thursday dismissed Apple's appeal seeking "a review of the first instance judgment that Apple infringed mobile technology company Optis' technology patents." The lawsuit between Apple and Optis began in 2019. Optis accused Apple of infringing on eight of its patents, which are essential to the 4G technology used in Apple's iPhones and iPads. Last year, the trial court ruled in Optis' favor, finding that "two of the eight patents are essential to 4G and that Apple infringed them."
