Elon Musk's SpaceX company has been launching thousands of satellites into space. They're part of the Starlink project, which aims to provide high speed internet to remote areas. It's thought Starlink has put some 3,000 of them into space since 2018. The company says it has 400,000 subscribers in the 36 countries it currently covers.

OneWeb and Eutelsat plan to merge to create a stronger internet rival to SpaceX's Starlink. The merger is subject to approval from regulators and shareholders and is expected to close by mid-2023. OneWeb currently has 428 satellites in orbit of a planned 648 in its first-generation network.
