The General Conference on Weights and Measures voted to end the leap second. The practice was introduced in 1972 to reconcile discrepancies between atomic and solar time. Facebook and Reddit have long complained about the practice, which can cause server outages. The International Telecommunications Union will vote on the issue next year.
