It looks like Tesla is winning the EV charging standards war. Global automaker Stellantis (which includes Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, Ram, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, and more) has announced that it will adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging standard. Starting in 2025, Stellantis will offer NACS connectors on select vehicles and adapters for existing vehicles. This means that NACS will become the de facto North American EV charging standard. Major automakers such as Volkswagen, GM, Volvo, Polestar, Mercedes, Honda, BMW, and Lucid already support NACS, and charging network operators ChargePoint and Electrify America have committed to adoption. While some experts expect the CCS standard to continue to be used, the adoption of NACS will further advance the EV market and improve user-friendliness. The adoption of NACS marks an important inflection point for the EV market, and while it remains to be seen how the EV charging standards market will evolve in the future, NACS is expected to play an important role in the development of the EV market.
