세계 3대 가전 전시회인 독일 베를린 가전전시회 IFA가 2일부터 6일(현지시각)까지 5일간 메세 베를린에서 열린다. IFA가 오프라인 행사로 열린 것은 코로나19 팬데믹 사태 이후 3년 만이다. 올해 IFA는 사상 최대 규모인 1900여 개 기업이 참가한 가운데 24만명의 관람객이 운집할 것으로 예상된다. 우리나라에서는 삼성전자, LG전자, ETRI 등을 필두로 코로나 이전보다 약 25% 증가한 120여개 업체가 참가한다.

But the company's forecast suggests that handset sales growth will slow during the fourth quarter. Qualcomm's IoT business, which makes low-power chips for connected devices, grew 31% to $1.83 billion.

다. 지난주 나온 중국 스마트폰 및 칩셋 시장의 5월 실적 단면도도 여전히 그렇다. 미디어텍이 840만개로 선두를, 퀄컴이 650만개를 공급하며 뒤를 쫓고 있다. 미국이 대중 제재로 화웨이 스마트폰사업 손발을 묶은 상황에서 가장 큰 피해자가 오히려 미국의 퀄컴이 되고 있는 형국이다.

애플이 5G 통신칩 자체 개발을 진행하고 있으나 과정이 순조롭지 않다고 애플 전문 분석가 밍치궈가 최근 밝혔다. 애플은 퀄컴 의존도를 탈피하기 위해 2019년부터 인텔의 통신칩 사업 부문을 인수, 자체 통신칩 개발에 몰두하고 있다.

The Supreme Court has denied Apple's request to invalidate two Qualcomm patents. The two patents played key roles in Qualcomm's attempts to ban Apple products in 2017. The companies struck a six-year licensing deal to settle their main dispute in 2019. It's not clear what will happen next, though Apple is rumored to be ditching Qualcomm in favor of its own modems.
