TikTok has officially announced the launch of its e-commerce service, TikTok Shop, in the United States. The launch of TikTok Shop, which began in November last year, marks the end of TikTok's test service and the start of a full-scale e-commerce competition with Amazon. With the launch, TikTok introduced a dedicated shop tab on the home screen and began offering features such as live commerce shopping, shopping, and ad creator affiliate programs. TikTok Shop is a service that allows users to click on a tag applied by a TikTok creator to a product in a video and go directly to the product's purchase page. Currently, the service is available in eight countries, including six Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

TikTok will restrict links to external shopping malls in order to promote the use of its TikTok Shop, according to U.S. tech publication TechCrunch. If the restrictions are implemented, TikTok users will only be able to make e-commerce purchases through the TikTok Shop platform. Bytedance reported that TikTok plans to grow its e-commerce to the same level as social media platform Douyin by 2028. Douyin is often referred to as the Chinese version of TikTok, with an e-commerce volume of $200 billion last year.
