Tesla's Japanese supplier Panasonic will not be able to begin mass production of 4680 battery cells for Tesla before March 2024 as originally planned. "In order to introduce performance improvement measures that will further strengthen our competitiveness, we have changed the schedule so that mass production will begin during the first half of March 25, 2025," Panasonic said in its earnings release, referring to the first half of its fiscal year ending March 2025.

His remarks at the presentation were the clearest indication Panasonic has given yet that it will build a new plant in the United States to feed Tesla's EV expansion plans.
