Meta has admitted that it used public posts on the Facebook and Instagram platforms to train its new artificial intelligence virtual assistant. Nick Clegg, Meta's president of global affairs, said the company used only public posts and excluded all private posts and private messages shared with friends and family to train the company's AI bot. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has taken down fake accounts suspected to be behind the Chinese government. Meta said the Chinese government had set up fake accounts with multiple offices in the country to spread fake news and attempt to incite. Meta described the accounts as spamouflage (a combination of spam and camouflage). They operated from offices across China and appeared to be staffed on a rotating basis, the company said. The announcement brings the total number of accounts Meta has taken down to more than 7,000.
