빅테크 '면책특권' 수정되나...미국 법정서 다툰다

페이스북과 인스타그램이 유료 인증 서비스를 도입한다. 페이스북 모회사인 메타플랫폼의 마크 저커버그 최고경영자는 19일(현지시간) 자신의 페이스북을 통해 "이번 주 유료서비스인 '메타 베리파이드(Verified)'를 출시한다"고 말했다.

Meta Verified will let users verify their account with a government ID. The service will roll out first in Australia and New Zealand this week. Only users who are over the age of 18 will be allowed to subscribe to the service. Facebook says there will be no changes to accounts that are already verified.

Meta Platforms Inc. is removing gender as an option for advertisers to target teens on Facebook META and Instagram, part of a broader overhaul aimed at tightening the company’s advertising policy for young users. User activity on Facebook and Instagram will also no longer be used to tailor ads for teens, the company said in a blog post Tuesday. For example, engagement on certain Instagram posts or Facebook pages will no longer inform the types of ads that teens will see, the social-media company said.

NetChoice and the Computer and Communications Industry Association are petitioning the Supreme Court. The trade groups represent Facebook, Google and Twitter. They argue the laws deny social media platforms "editorial control over their own websites" The Supreme Court already granted emergency relief to NetChoice in preventing a similar law in Texas from going into effect.
