Foxconn has signed a lease with Saigon-Bac Giang Industrial Park Corp to occupy a plot of 45 hectares (111 acres) for around US$62.5 million. The Taiwanese giant is pushing ahead with efforts to shift more production away from mainland China. Foxconn signed a US$300 million agreement with a Vietnamese developer last August to build a new factory in Bac Giang.

A subsidiary of Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision Industry will dispose of its indirect minority stake in China’s semiconductor giant Tsinghua Unigroup, the latest sign that Beijing’s chip industry is becoming increasingly isolated from the rest of the world. Hon Hai’s China-listed Foxconn Industrial Internet will sell the shares to Yantai Haixiu IC Investment Center for not less than 5.38 billion yuan ($772 million), according to an exchange filing Friday.

Last month a surge in Covid cases saw the company lock down the campus, prompting some workers to break out.

Foxconn is increasing its investment in EV startup Lordstown Motors. The Taiwanese manufacturer is buying $170 million in common stock and newly created preferred shares. The investment will occur in tranches and is subject to a review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.
