Foxconn unveiled two new electric car prototypes at its annual tech day. CEO Liu Young-way said the company is not in the business of selling its own EV brand. Foxconn said September revenue totaled 822.3 billion new Taiwan dollars ($25.9 billion), up 40.4% year-on-year and 83.2% higher than August, a monthly sales record for the company. One analyst said Foxconn’s record revenue came on the back of “storming demand” for the higher priced iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models. Apple is a major assembler of Apple’s iPhones. Foxconn’s comments come amid a debate over the strength of Apple’s business against this difficult economic backdrop.

Taiwan’s Foxconn Technology Group started building its first plant to produce electric-car batteries Wednesday, the contract electronics manufacturer’s latest step into the booming electric-vehicle industry. Foxconn said it plans to invest about 6 billion New Taiwan dollars, equivalent to about $200 million, on battery production lines and a research-and-development center in Kaohsiung city in southern Taiwan.

Last week, rumors about a possible iPhone 14 delay rumors gained traction due to several lockdowns in China in the past few weeks. While Foxconn was just 4% down in revenue in April compared to the previous month, iPhone assembler Pegatron and MacBook maker Quanta Computer saw revenues down 35% and 40%, respectively. While things look bright for Apple and Foxconn, the iPhone maker says it will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation in China.
