Hertz CEO, 테슬라 전기차 구매 실패 후 사임

Stephen Scher, CEO of car rental company Hertz, is stepping down after taking the blame for the company's failure to purchase large numbers of Tesla electric cars, Bloomberg reported today. He will be replaced by Gil West, the former COO of GM's self-driving taxi unit Cruise.

Hertz Global Holdings plans to order up to 175,000 General Motors Co(GM.N) electric vehicles. The multi-billion dollar, multi-year deal could be the first of many GM agreements to supply electric vehicles to rental car companies. GM shares fell more than 5% Tuesday afternoon following rival Ford Motor Co's warning late Monday that supply chain costs were $1 billion higher than expected in the third quarter.

Polestar has delivered 65,000 Polestars to Hertz as part of a deal struck in April. The EV automaker says the deal is one of the largest single EV purchases in history. The deal is a dig at Tesla, which supposedly had a deal with Hertz last year for 100,000 Model 3s.
