ARM announced the launch of its next-generation compute platform, Total Compute Solution (TCS) 23, featuring a new CPU-GPU combination. TCS 23 combines the CoreTex-X4 CPU and Immortalis-G720 GPU to maximize performance and battery efficiency compared to its predecessor, TCS 22. "The Coretex-X4 CPU, one of the key enablers of TCS 23, will be produced on the N3E (3-nanometer) process in collaboration with TSMC," said Chris Burgee, senior vice president, Infrastructure Business Unit, ARM.

British semiconductor designer ARM has started developing its own semiconductors. ARM has formed a solutions engineering team to develop prototype chips for mobile devices, laptops, and other electronics, and is reportedly working on semiconductor prototypes. Rumors of ARM's chipmaking moves have raised alarms in the semiconductor industry that it could become a competitor to some of its biggest customers, such as MediaTek and Qualcomm. The move is seen as a strategy to attract new customers and boost growth to increase its valuation as ARM seeks to list on the Nasdaq later this year.

Intel said Wednesday that its chip contract manufacturing division will work with U.K.-based chip designer ARM to allow cell phone chips and other products using ARM's technology to be produced in Intel's factories. Intel was once the world leader in the central processing unit (CPU) segment of the semiconductor industry. However, it has been criticized for losing ground to TSMC, which has a close relationship with Apple, due to its productivity and technological edge.

ARM has filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm and subsidiary Nuvia over alleged trademark infringement. Qualcomm bought Nuvia last year to leverage the latter's custom processor cores for its chips. ARM claims Qualcomm did not obtain the necessary permission to transfer and use the licenses it granted to Nuvia.

SoftBank has put on hold plans for a London initial public offering of the British chip technology firm Arm Ltd because of the political turmoil in the UK government, the Financial Times reported on Monday. The departures of investment minister Gerry Grimstone and digital minister Chris Philp, following the collapse of UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government earlier this month, have led SoftBank to pause discussions about Arm's UK listing next year, the FT reported, citing people briefed on the talks.
