According to Synergy Research Group, the global cloud market share figures for Q2 are Amazon, Alibaba, IBM, Google, and Microsoft. These five cloud leaders accounted for more than 70% of the global market in the second quarter of 2023. John Dinsdale, principal analyst at Nudge Research Group, said "Amazon and Google's share grew slightly in Q2, while Microsoft's share declined," said John Dinsdale, principal analyst at Nudge Research Group, "In terms of the relative size of their cloud operations, Microsoft is now twice the size of Google and Amazon is nearly as large as the other two combined."

IBM and Google have announced that they will provide a total of $150 million (about 290 million won) to support joint research on quantum computers at the University of Chicago and the University of Tokyo in Japan. The goal is to develop a quantum computer with 100,000 "qubits" within 10 years. The more qubits, the basic unit of quantum information, the better the performance. IBM unveiled a 433-qubit quantum processor last November. Experts say the U.S.-Japan collaboration on quantum computers is a counterweight to China's recent heavy investment in quantum computers.

U.S. computer software developer IBM said it will replace 30 percent of its non-face-to-face employees, or about 7,800 people, with artificial intelligence within five years. "In the next few years, we expect to stop hiring for roles that we believe can be replaced by AI," IBM CEO Arvind Krishna said on Monday. A number of companies, including IBM, will use AI for non-face-to-face work, Bloomberg reported.
