Global e-commerce giant Amazon has abandoned its acquisition of robot vacuum cleaner maker iRobot. Regulators, including the European Union (EU) and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), have raised concerns about anticompetitive effects. Amazon announced the acquisition of iRobot in August 2022.

Amazon's $1.7 billion acquisition of Roomba maker iRobot is unlikely to be approved by the European Union (EU). The EU is concerned that the acquisition could stifle competition in the robotic vacuum cleaner market. The EU Commission notified Amazon of its concerns in November after conducting an in-depth investigation following the announcement of the deal in August 2022.
