WhatsApp announced it has launched a new in-app message translation feature for iPhone and Android apps. Users can simply long-press any message they want to translate and select the 'Translate' option from the menu. Android users can access translations in six languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. iPhone users get access to a much broader selection of 19+ languages including Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, French, and German. Android users also have the bonus feature of enabling automatic translation for entire chat threads, so all incoming messages are translated automatically. All translations are processed directly on the user's device to protect privacy, and WhatsApp cannot see the translated content. The feature works across one-on-one chats, group chats, and Channel updates.
