Payment giant Stripe has unveiled its stablecoin issuance platform and AI commerce tools. Open Issuance allows companies to create custom stablecoins with just a few lines of code, built on the Bridge platform that Stripe acquired for $1.1 billion last year. Crypto wallet provider Phantom's CASH token will be the first issuance, with Hyperliquid's USDH and MetaMask's mUSD coming soon. Issuers can adjust reserves between Treasury bonds and cash, with asset management handled by BlackRock and Fidelity. Stripe also introduced an AI Agent Commerce Protocol developed with ChatGPT creator OpenAI, currently being tested by Microsoft and Anthropic. Will Gaybrick, Stripe's president, stated that "a new online economy era is opening with stablecoins and AI." Stripe recently acquired crypto wallet provider Privy and is developing Tempo, a blockchain for large-scale transactions, with venture capital firm Paradigm.
