The US government is once again pursuing a breakup lawsuit against Google over its dominance in advertising technology. This comes just weeks after DC District Court Judge Amit Mehta ruled that Google is a monopoly in online search, while rejecting major government demands such as the divestiture of Chrome and restrictions on distribution agreements. Judge Leonie Brinkema of the Eastern District of Virginia has also previously ruled that Google is a monopolist in the advertising technology market, raising expectations over whether the government’s case will gain greater traction this time.
