On April 25, Google announced a reorganization ahead of its first quarter earnings report, laying off more than 200 employees from its "core" team and moving some departments to India and Mexico. Asim Hussain, vice president of Google Developer Ecosystem (GDE), announced the restructuring plans in an email to employees last week. He said this is the largest round of layoffs planned for developers this year. Google hasn't revealed the reason for the reorganization, but it's speculated to be a cost-cutting move. In fact, Google has reportedly been ramping up its cost-cutting efforts lately in preparation for a possible economic downturn.
