Rivian has introduced hands-free highway driving functionality for its second-generation electric vehicles through a new software update. The key feature, Enhanced Highway Assist, autonomously controls steering, acceleration, and braking on compatible highways while using an infrared camera to ensure the driver remains attentive to the road. However, this feature is limited to Gen 2 vehicles, with no mention of support for Gen 1 models. Additionally, a new off-road driving mode called Rally Mode has been added to the Performance Dual-Motor lineup. This mode enhances steering and throttle responsiveness across various terrains. Some Dual-Motor vehicles can also receive a post-purchase performance upgrade for $5,000, which includes three new driving modes: Rally, Sport, and Soft Sand. Both Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles benefit from other updates in this release. These include automatic side mirror tilting during reverse for improved visibility while parallel parking, tire puncture detection, and the ability to change wheel types via the mobile app for more accurate range estimates.
