Microsoft has confirmed that it is conducting layoffs affecting less than 1% of its total workforce. This could potentially result in thousands of employees being let go. A company spokesperson stated, "Organizational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing our business". These layoffs are occurring broadly across geographies, teams, roles, and tenures. According to job roles disclosed by terminated employees on LinkedIn, the layoffs have impacted various positions including cloud solution architects, AI research scientists, and customer experience managers. Notably, there has been a significant reduction in workforce related to Azure cloud and AI roles, as well as customer management positions. Microsoft appears to be using this restructuring to position itself for new opportunities in the AI field. The company emphasized, "We will continue to prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners".
