Microsoft (MS) is set to carry out additional layoffs affecting thousands of employees, mainly in its sales division. This workforce restructuring is part of cost-cutting measures following large-scale investments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), and the official announcement is expected early next month, after the company’s fiscal year ends. The upcoming layoffs are likely to impact not only the sales teams but also other departments. Previously, in May, MS laid off 6,000 employees, mainly from product and engineering divisions, while customer-facing roles such as sales and marketing were relatively spared. MS is currently restructuring its sales organization, including outsourcing software sales for small and mid-sized customers to external firms. The company has reaffirmed its policy of actively investing in growth areas such as servers and data centers, while keeping spending in other divisions under control.
