Microsoft has begun testing an AI-based Windows search feature for Windows 11 developer channel Insiders. This new feature utilizes semantic indexing to allow users to search for local files using everyday language. The AI search functionality is available across various areas including settings, File Explorer, and the taskbar, and works without an internet connection. Currently, it is limited to Windows settings and file formats such as JPEG, PNG, PDF, TXT, and XLS. To use this feature, a Copilot Plus PC is required, and it will initially be available on Snapdragon-based PCs. Supported languages include Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. Microsoft plans to expand this feature to include cloud data such as OneDrive in the future. Additionally, this update includes an AI writing tool called 'Click to Do', which allows users to select text and automatically correct grammar. This AI search feature test is seen as part of Microsoft's efforts to actively integrate AI technology into the Windows operating system.
