The U.S. Department of Commerce has selected Chainlink and Pyth Network to deliver official government economic data on-chain in a historic first-of-its-kind collaboration. Key macroeconomic statistics from the Bureau of Economic Analysis including Real GDP and PCE Price Index are now accessible across ten blockchain networks including Ethereum, Avalanche, and Optimism with monthly or quarterly updates. This enables innovative DeFi use cases such as lending protocols adjusting interest rates based on GDP trends and prediction markets incorporating economic indicators for crowdsourced forecasts. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated the initiative aims to modernize government data sharing by making it more transparent and tamper-proof. Following the announcement, Chainlink's LINK token surged over 5% while Pyth's PYTH token jumped nearly 50%.
