U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, is reportedly considering a plan for the U.S. government to acquire equity stakes in semiconductor manufacturers that have received CHIPS Act funding. Lutnick is in negotiations with major companies, including Intel, exploring how the government could take equity stakes in exchange for the construction of factories in the U.S. Companies such as Micron, Taiwan's TSMC, and Samsung could also be part of this plan. Most of the funding has yet to be distributed.
