Jeff Bezos has been secretly investing in the Michigan-based EV startup Slate Auto. Founded in 2022, the company is developing a low-cost, two-seater electric pickup truck while bringing in talent from Ford, GM, and Stellantis. In 2023, Slate Auto raised at least $111 million in a Series A round and has since completed its Series B funding. Vehicle production is set to begin in late 2026 near Indianapolis. Amid a slowdown in the EV market, Slate Auto plans to secure profitability not only through vehicle sales but also by expanding into accessories and apparel. The company's CEO is Christine Barman, a former Chrysler executive, while Bezos is reportedly not directly involved in its management.
